Final campaign spending reports show plenty of money in the final weeks of the election

  In the hotly contested race for Congress in the 9th District, U.S. Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, holds a financial edge over Republican challenger Rocky Raczkowski of Farmington Hills.

  In the last campaign finance reports due before the Nov. 2 election due Thursday and good for spending through Oct. 13, Peters showed $458,261 in cash on hand compared to $376,335 for Raczkowski.
  For the election cycle, Peters listed $1,817,515 in contributions from individuals and $1,132918 from political action committees. Raczkowski listed individual contributions of $1,607,620 and PAC contributions of $45,000.
  Peters is running for re-election to Congress for the first time.
  The 9th is entirely within Oakland County and represents Pontiac, Lake Angelus, Auburn Hills, Keego Harbor, Sylvan Lake, Orchard Lake, Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, Rochester, Troy, Clawson, Royal Oak, Berkley, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, Franklin, Farmington, Farmington Hills, and the townships of Bloomfield, Southfield, Waterford, West Bloomfield, Oakland and part of Orion.

  Campaign finance statements for statewide candidates were do at 5 p.m. Friday for the period ending Oct. 17.
  Republican candidate for governor Rick Snyder listed $2,262,399 in cash on hand to $167,574 for his Democratic opponent, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. Snyder holds a double-digit lead over Bernero and Bernero is hoping to pick up some traction in the final week of the campaign from a visit by former President Bill Clinton in Detroit on Sunday, Oct. 24.
  In the race for secretary of state, Republican Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson reported $506,643 in cash on hand as of Oct. 17 to $524,835 for her Democratic opponent, Wayne State University law professor Jocelyn Benson.
  In the race for attorney general, Republican Bill Schuette listed $456,061 in cash on hand compared to $352,023 for his opponent, Democrat David Leyton of Genesee County.
