If redistricting — the process of drawing new political districts every 10 years after the U.S. Census — produced anything, it's a game of musical chairs, especially in Michigan's newly drawn 14th Congressional District.
Michigan lost a seat in the redistricting process and U.S. Reps. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, and Hansen Clark, D-Detroit, are running in the same district, along with Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence and former state Rep. Mary Waters of Detroit, in the oddly S-shaped district that begins in Pontiac and ends in Detroit.
Peters, seeking a third two-year term in Congress, has been regularly vocal about picking up labor union endorsements along the way, including the Michigan Education Association and others.
Clarke, in his first term in Congress, announced last week the endorsement of the Oakland County Democratic Black Caucus.
The winner in the Aug. 7 primary will move on to the November general election.
