$9, $10, $50? What should the minimum wage be?

  Does a higher minimum wage cost jobs or create jobs?
  That's likely to be the core of the political arguments over President Barack Obama's proposal in his State of the Union address for a $9 an hour minimum wage nationally.

  Even if the country could afford it, Republicans in general argue, they say its a jobs killer in that small employers will be forced to higher fewer people because the higher wages costs them more.
  On the other hand, Obama and supporters of a higher minimum wage argue the extra money in the pockets of nation's lowest paid workers helps the economy by giving needed extra cash to spend, and potentially keeping people off the public assistance rolls.
  In Michigan, one state senator says $10 an hour is in order.
